Mark Johnston

The Rev. Mark Johnston is a priest in the Episcopal Church and recently retired from Camp McDowell where he was the Executive Director for 27 ½ years. For all of his adult life Mark has been involved in justice and environmental issues locally and statewide. He has created several not for profits including Gasp, the ADEM Reform Coalition, West Alabama Food Bank, and the McDowell Environmental Center. He did volunteer community organizing around the Arrowhead Landfill during the time when the coal ash was brought in and is a part of their civil rights complaint. Over the years he has helped numerous environmental groups do capacity building and strategic planning. Mark and his wife Maggie live in a forest in Winston County. They have four children, three grandchildren, five rescue dogs, and a flock of chickens.
